Why oh why did I do this to myself? >_< I won't be able to sleep properly for weeks now. Thanks again Silent Hill games for creeping the hell out of me...
Anywho. I never quite got around to actually completing this game, so I finally decided to give it an attempt.
The story is certainly interesting, and the atmosphere is creepy as always for a Silent Hill game, although, it's actually a bit of a step back from the first game in terms of creep factor. The enemies are also extremely repetitive to an almost annoying extent, and the puzzles are rather unintuitive, extremely linear, and innane. The level design is also extremely linear and claustrophobic as well. If it weren't for the fact that the storyline/atmosphere are interesting, the gameplay would be a real major detriment to the game itself. There also seems to be a hell of a lot of ammo as well, and the pacing is screwy to say the least. The nightmare world also takes forever to actually even show up and it just doesn't have the same impact it did in the first game. In Silent Hill 1 it was the kind of thing you would actually dread every time you heard the air raid siren... to the point that it actually made the 'normal' (if it can even be called that) world almost comforting to be back in, despite the fact that it was still rather uncomfortable as is. A sort of lesser of two evils scenario if you will.
The 2nd game doesn't seem to really have that sort of thing at all, which is a little disappointing to say the least. :\
However, I'm still interested enough in the story/atmosphere to see what happens. Unfortunately, I already know the big twist near the end of the game as people have gleefully spoiled it for me well in advance, but I'm still very interested to at the very least see for myself how it actually gets up to that point and plays out.
